It’s OFFICIAL!!!!!! Spring has sprung!! Mother Nature kept a good one for February 1st 2018, that’s for sure. The mornings are certainly getting brighter and the evenings are giving us a glimpse of change. Yes we are witnessing the STRETCH!
With the stretch comes more time in the great outdoors, be it be choice or not! You either send the kids out into the fresh air or…. well, they bring the back garden into your kitchen.
You open up the back doors and invite the world in…no sorry…what I am thinking???!!! You open up the back doors and shoo the whole lot of them out onto the grass and will them to run wild.
You, of course have images of a splendid garden picnic under clear blue skies with rugs, cushions & muffins, all washed down with home-made lemonade, straight out of any Enid Blyton book. All this swiftly followed by a game of harmless Cowboys and Indians or even setting up shop from the playhouse. Who cares if they are charging you €7 for one lousy slice of imaginary pizza?!
Hhhhmmmmm, once you notice the rain hitting your kitchen window within 60 seconds of the garden party starting your heart sinks. Darnnnnnnn, just your luck! Except its not …..because on closer examination you notice its not really raining at all (WIN), its actually just the garden hose which is commandeered by 3rd born. Its like a scene from Back Draft. C’mon, who doesn’t want to be Fireman Sam when they are 4 years old?
This sets the scene up nicely for a Peppa Pig-esque style mud bath . Your back garden suddenly rivals a geothermal spring in California…..but Napa Valley this ain’t. 4th born is unperturbed by the cold and launches himself belly first right into the middle of it. Hey, George Pig!! Anything you can do I can do better BUDDY!
Your heart sinks and you silently curse under your breath rejoice in the invention of the washing machine. Although this is a big ask today. Thank goodness you haven’t spent a fortune on the clothes!
Gone are the days of the “good clothes’ in my life!! That’s for sure. But also gone are the days of actually sacrificing quality, comfort and style for cost. Primark’s new season Leisure wear has been a revelation lately for me. The kids actually WANT to wear the stuff…..repeatedly!! The pieces are stylish, colourful, age appropriate (it’ll allows for a little bit of tweenager in there – just enough to satisfy all parties) and great value.
Bring on the mud baths, grassy tackles & under garments full of sand.
Oh and throw in a few nappies full of partially digested sand for good measure. Where would be without a good surprise?!
Your’s loving the springtime,
Cli xx
