BulletProof solution

3rd born descended into this world on Stephen’s night last year and to say that things have been a bit crazzzzzy in my life has been an understatement. Lying on my sofa wearing my brand spanking new Christmas maternity top for probably the 5th time in 7 days (at 39 weeks pregnant you haven’t a whole lot of scope really) teamed with XXL men’s PJ bottoms (they fit and were kind to my very restricted bladder) and obligatory Uggs, I was a sight to behold!

At 11pm I was in a semi conscious state snoozing & watching SATC (God I love being a woman #multitask queens). By 11.42pm I was alone in the maternity hospital, holding 3rd born, having driven myself in. The lucky midwife phoned my husband to “deliver” the good news (terrible time for a pun!!)

I genuinely thought that I was driving in to ensure I got my epidural. Now each to their own but seriously…..I’m the girl who rings the hospital to say “HAVE ONE OF EVERYTHING READY FOR ME PLEASE…I’M ON THE WAY” So I took my paracetamol (that really helped!!!!), grabbed my labour ward bag and went and had the heir. Practically in the car! Nice.

So tired doesn’t even begin to cover it. It was around this time that a good friend who had a baby a few days me before suggested buying a Nutribullet. A what I hear you cry? Or maybe not as so many people have started to buy them…..but for those of you in the dark…

A Nutribullet – my shining light in the hazy tunnel of sleep deprivation and chaos.

This little powerhouse has literally changed my life (and that of my husbands who incidentally is weighing in over a stone lighter now). I bought mine on hightstreettv.ie  but you can also get them on amazon and more locally in Brown Thomas.

(My day begins following my smoothie and coffee – the irony of this is not lost on me!)

I hate mess. I hate looking at it and most especially I hate cleaning it. That is why juicers are simply not for me – I’ve tried them and I cannot handle all the cleaning.  They can be expensive and why waste all the fibre in the fruit and veg.

With the Nutribullet you literally wash and roughly chop your fruit and veg and whiz them all together.

(This is my go to smoothie that I have most often – Kale, apple, grape, chia, flax, spirulina and water)

The sky is the limit with regards to what you blend together in your nutribullet

My top tips for smoothie making are as follows:

  1. Freeze your fruit/veg:IMG_1422.JPG

IMG_2212.JPG

There are 2 reasons for this – smoothies are vile just not great at room temp in my opinion! Cold is good. And freezing them obviously allows you to have a fresh stock all the time – no waste.

2.  Put any left over fruit, such as lemons, limes, apples & pear halves in a sealed Tupperware box to use the next day. I am the biggest fan of the Sistema range from Homestore and More. You can see what they have here.

3.  Add your SUPERFOODS to your cup the night before – small but when you have ZERO time in the morning messing with packets is a big NO NO.

By superfoods I mean any (or all) of the following –

IMG_1485.JPG

Chia seeds, Flax Seed, Linseed (you can buy this in Aldi now also)  – I add about one tablespoon of any two of these. The Linwoods range above is fantastic and saves so much bother as they sneak in lots of goodness on top of the flaxseed into their range of flaxseed.

I also add Superfoods that can only be bought in Health Food shops and I will do a separate post on these next time. Otherwise it may be overload and the longest blog post since time began.

(Yesterdays was frozen coconut milk, matcha tea, blueberries and water – not for the faint hearted this one! You could also add protein powder to this)

But for now I’ve just included a few ideas with regards to what you can blitz to kickstart your day! I’ll post different combinations I whizz up on my Facebook page as I go too. Some for the kids too!

(This mornings blend prepped last night – Banana, Kale, Lemon, Apple, Spoon Almond butter, Gluten Free Porridge Oats, Chia, Flax, Spirulina & water)

(So I just have to grab bags with banana and kale from freezer & apple from fridge in morning and go!!)

My advice! Ask Santa for a high power blender…..Christmas will whizz round. Ho! Ho! Ho! Sorry terrible I know! Again!!!

Let me know if you have any for me to try please!!

Cli xx

Brilliant! When I was in Brown Thomas the other day I see they have now introduced a higher wattage nutribullet so you get everything like tiny little strawberry seeds smashed to smithereens! Woohoo.. Santa might just have to slide that one down the chimney!

    • October 19, 2014 / 8:48 pm

I saw it online today – it looks cool! Yes that will def fit down the chimney – don’t you think? Excited about a gadget much? Yes!! Tee hee x

    Hi Cliona ,
I’m really enjoying all your tips on your blog re :the bullet!
I recently purchased one and I’m interested to find out why you are cutting the stalks off the kale and not just adding them whole?!..

    Cheers ,
    Sinead

Hi Sinead, thanks so much. I originally did that cos my friend told me to but then I questioned it and threw them in. Its very fibrous with them in. Kinda stringy if that makes any sense. Now I leave it in the small ones (depending on the type of Kale) but choose it from the large ones. X
